Guitars, Vocals, Keyboards, Drums, Shrieks and Other Undetectable Sounds.
Gordon was born to play music. Seems like right out of the womb, G was singing and beating on anything he could find. He grew up in the Palm Beaches and went to Palm Beach Gardens High School where reportedly Gordon was able to strum “Smoke On The Water” with just a rubber band and a stick.
In the mid 70s, Gordon had a few successful bands in High School – Oedipus, Burn and GMC- that played the various school dances, private parties and one local dive – Captain Alex. The band was so good that the owner of Captain Alex allowed GMC to entertain there, even though the band members were under age.
Gordon started writing in High School and that carried over to college where he attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. In 1979, after getting acclimated to college life, Gordon started another band with a drummer (named the Kidd) that shared the same dormitory.
The Riff, as they were known, started with local gigs playing new wave and punk covers of the 80s. After developing a following, Gordon began writing songs for the band and started playing them live. The original songs were a big hit! The Riff became well known across northern Florida and opened concerts for such acts as The Police, The B-52s, The Psychedelic Furs, Gang Of Four, and Hall & Oates among others. They even got to share the stage with Tom Petty and Stan Lynch, two other notable Gainesville boys.
In 1982, The Riff entered the Camel Battle of the Bands where they came in 2nd in the nation. The Riff also recorded a song for a North Florida compilation album called The Sinkhole Tapes.
In 1984, after graduation, the Riff disbanded and Gordon moved to New York to work on the New York Stock Exchange. Dude’s gotta eat you know. He couldn’t stay away from music and joined a band called Soul Attack. Soul Attack allowed Gordon to realize one of his dreams – playing at CBGB’s in New York City.
In 1988, Gordon moved back to Florida and settled in North Miami Beach. There, he started working with another singer/songwriter who convinced Gordon to move to Los Angeles with her. The duo, dubbed Lavish X, was able to get a demo to the producers of Prince. Alas, nothing became of the demo, but Gordon was definitely expanding his musical boundaries by incorporating Dance and Hip Hop beats into his repertoire. Gordon made ends meet by working for Great Western Bank in their Financial Services division.
By 1990, Gordon had tired of the LA scene and moved back to Florida because Great Western Bank was expanding there. In West Palm Beach, Gordon hooked up with one of his old college buddies and formed Plastic Nude Martini. PNM, for short, played the local club circuit and recorded original songs that got statewide radio airplay. PNM was also one of the headline acts of the Amnesty International concert at Florida Atlantic University in the winter of 1992.
In 1993, Gordon met his bride Deborah. They married and Gordon took a job with Mutual Service Corporation as a mutual fund analyst. Music was put on hold for a while, but Gordon still writes and gets his musical highs by developing original music videos for the firm’s National Conferences.
Presently, Gordon is still with MSC as their Marketing Manager. Gordon and Deborah make their home in Lake Worth, Florida with their 3 cats (Scamp, Gremlin and Patches) and their horse (Sammy).
